Today is the 321st day of the year. There are 44 days remaining until the end of the year (38 days till Christmas). If your birthday is today, you are a Scorpio.

Today is the 22nd annual observance of National Educational Support Professionals Day.  It is held yearly on the Wednesday of American Education Week.  Today is the day to recognize all those individuals in our schools, who may not directly teach, but also have key roles in supporting education.

November 17th is also Homemade Bread Day.  In much of Germany, Buss und Bettag (Repentance Day) is a legal public holiday today (Wednesday before the last Sunday of the church year).

On November 17, 1869, the Suez Canal, in northern Africa, was officially opened.  This 100 mile long canal shortened the sea route from Europe to India by 6,000 miles. An Anglo-French commission ran the canal until 1956, when Egypt seized control of it.

Soichiro Honda, founder of the Honda Motor Company, was born on November 16, 1906, and would have been 104 years old today.
