George (or Georgette or Georgina) Spelvin is a popular pseudonym used in American theater. This fictitious name, used by actors who for various reasons want to remain anonymous, is said to have appeared in more than 10,000 Broadway performances. As this pseudonym was first used in the play "Karl the Peddler" on November 15, 1886, today is designated George Spelvin Day. Georgina Spelvin has fallen out of general use since its 1973 use in the pornographic film "The Devil in Miss Jones."
November 15th is also I Love to Write Day, America Recycles Day, and National Bundt Day.
When Arthur Dorrington signed a contract to play hockey with the Atlantic City Seagulls, on November 15, 1950, he became the first black man to play organized hockey in the US. Today, therefore, is the 60th anniversary of the first Black professional hockey player.
