Election Day 2010

Today is the 306th day of the year. There are 59 days remaining until the end of the year (53 days till Christmas). If your birthday is today, you are a Scorpio.

By law, Election Day in the United States occurs on the Tuesday after the first Monday of November. Depending upon the year, then, the actual date can range from 2-8 November. This year, then, Election Day occurs on the earliest possible of these dates. The right to vote is one we should cherish as Americans. If you are eligible to vote, then, please make sure that your voice is heard.

As North and South Dakota entered the Union on November 2, 1889, today is Admission Day for the 39th and 40th state. November 2nd (or the following Monday if that date falls on a Saturday or Sunday) is National Traffic Directors Day. For Catholics, November 2nd is All Souls' Day. It is also Plan Your Epitaph Day.

On this date in 1947, Howard Hughes flew his mammoth "Spruce Goose" aircraft (a $25 million, 200-ton wooden monstrosity) for its first and only flight.
