National Boss Day 2010

Today is the 288th day of the year. There are 77 days remaining until the end of the year (71 days till Christmas). If your birthday is today, you are a Libra.

The weekday closest to Oct 16 is observed as a day for all employees to honor their bosses. By Presidential Proclamation since 1964 (PL 88–628 of Oct 6, 1964), October 15th is also White Cane Safety Day. In addition, the third Friday of October every year is National Mammography Day and October 15 annually is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Rememberance Day.

The Treasury Department reported that the official U.S. budget deficit for the 2010 fiscal year, which ended two weeks ago, is $1,294,000,000,000 (roughly $1.3 trillion) and the national debt is now $13.6 trillion, or $13,600,000,000,000. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) indicated that temperatures for the first nine months of 2010 tied with the same period of 1998 for the warmest on record. After 14 years of construction the 57 km (34 mile) Gotthard Base Tunnel in the Swiss Alps was completed when the last two meters of rock were drilled through.
