Dictionary Day 2010

As the birthday of Noah Webster, today is designated as a day to encourage regular dictionary use. Primarily in the Great Lakes region, and parts of the Northeast United States, Sweetest Day is celebrated on the third Saturday in October, as a day to give candy to others. October 16th, is also World Food Day, a worldwide event designed to increase awareness, understanding and informed, year-around action to alleviate hunger. In addition, as the Saturday near the first quarter moon between mid-September and mid-October, today is also Fall Astronomy Day. If jumping off of bridges excites you (or just the beauty of bridges over beautiful canyons), at New River Gorge, West Virginia, today is their 31st annual Bridge Day.

Military medical researchers are optimistic that they have developed a blood test that can detect if someone has suffered a concussion or a mild traumatic brain injury.
